Why did we start making ColicStop?

Last spring we got 3 different, though equally heartbreaking, messages from friends.  Their stories were eerily similar – each of their horses had died in agony after hours of suffering from colic.  In one case, quality veterinary care arrived too late, sadly arriving only in time to provide euthanasia.   In the other cases, veterinary care was ineffective because the horses were already in shock, and were said to be ‘too far gone.’  None of these horses actually had a diagnosis of the relatively rare ‘torsion’ or twisted bowel form of colic, yet still they had died, because their loving owners had no resources to stop the progression of the colic.  These situations are all too familiar in the horse world, since colic causes 90% of horse deaths.  All these horse owners could do to help their horses was to subject themselves and their horse to endless hours of walking and waiting.

         After hearing this three times in a row we knew we had to act.  You see, the designer of Colicstop, Dr.Sally Boyd, has never had to have this excessive fear of the dreaded colic warning signs.  Dr. Boyd is a licensed Naturopathic Physician.  She has a solid medical education with a ‘twist:’ she is trained to look at illnesses in a different way than a ‘regular’ medical doctor.  She is trained to focus on finding the root cause of an illness, and then treating it in the gentlest, safest way possible.  Standard veterinary approaches, so useful in many crisis situations, can simply come too late or can simply be ineffective when it comes to horse colic.  As a lifelong horse lover and horse owner, Dr. Boyd knows too well the fear in people’s eyes when the word ‘colic’ comes up.  It is, as caring horse owners all know, an illness that is sudden, painful, life threatening, and sometimes incredibly expensive to treat.  Dr. Boyd has never had that strong fear of colic because of her ‘secret colic weapon.’.
